So I'm a little behind on my reviews of the spring 2012 collection, and I'm definitly not going to get through all of my rants and ravess tonight but I'll start will Alexander Mqueen.
[[ side note: yesterday someone at work asked me who my favorite designer was, a question I loathe because, honestly i don't have a favorite designer, I have multiple for multiple different reasons, there are the givens like Chanel for her iconic legacy she left behind, and her confident charisma that I admire most, and classic Balenciaga, because he was a total architectural genius when it came to constructing a garment, and more recently rodarte for their illusive visions that caressed the runways looks, to the ultimate classical painstaking detail of a draped dress by madame gres, I just can't pick a favorite, even though I tend to admire avante guarde work for its unique-ness, and wearable art form. I tend to go for more feminine designers and that brings me to the first designer I will review, because for some reason she was who I said when I was asked who my favorite designer was ( a la moment) Sarah Burton, the current designer for Alexander McQueen. These are the kind of garments that I would love love love to see being walked down the runway in person, because I just know that the pictures do them no justice. I just have such an appreciation for the detail that goes into the whole process from the color palette selection to picking out the right shoe. I loved the transcendental ruffles that played along the silhouette of the babydoll dresses and the striking contrast of the black lace. I tip my hat to her use of blushing nudes and bronzed porcelains fabrics that looked like they were dripped from a Greek statue. What I really loved most was how her collection still embodies that master himself, and that she is able to inject herself into a collection that can represent them both magnificently.
