So I am so excited that peplum skirts and shirts are in style for Spring 2012 because I love the shape of a peplum skirt/dress. It gives the perfect hourglass shape and looks both sexy and sophisticated. Just like us, peplums come in many shapes and sizes, some are more timid and modest, and some are more bold and in your face. Here are a few that I found
Below are from the Spring 2012 runways. As you can see more simply a peplum is just a mini ruffled circle skirt attached to the top of another skirt which is generally more fitted like a pencil skirt. Some may have 20 pleats for extra flare and some may only have 4 for just a little added structure to the waist
This one is from Jason Wu. I'd probably rock it at a fun cocktail party.
I loveee this cutout kind of 3/4 ascending peplum. Its daring, edgy and girly all in one dress. Completely fabulous.
This Stella Mcartney shirt is a great example of a peplum shirt. Now unfortunately, I do think they work better on a more narrow frame, or someone with a long torso who wants a more hourglass shape.
These are a few I found on polyvore. All which I love. They're more demure peplums so many can be worn to work an out for cocktails afterwards which is great. The Dorothy Perkins dress is modest but then kicks it up a notch with the spicy red color. I love the Elie saab dress, which also comes in black. It reminds me of an origami peplum, a great modern twist.
This double criss-crossed back dress with peplum skirt is great because, the peplum adds a nice shape to the waist and then the back gives it a fantastic pizazz. I'm always a fan of back drama. If it weren't for having to wear an adhesive bra with something like this, or sans bra, then I'd definitely own more like this in my wardrobe.
Lastly a little celebrity peplum. Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman rock bold and bright peplums both fitting perfectly with their body type.
So now hopefully, you're all caught up on your peplum styles, and can get ready to rock one this spring!
