matador
Sorry it took so long for me to do the write up on this set, the first month of 2012 has been quite the crazy one. I found this great runway makeup picture, on the eyeshadow lipstick website. It is from the Balmain 2001 fall runway. The outfit featured in this is from the Balmain Spring 2012 collection, but I thought both the 2001 makeup and the 2012 garments went great together in this set. I loved the whole spanish matador vibe of their collection. Hard metal accents adorned their accessoires giving them an edgy ethnic flair. I love the statement that this clutch makes. It is so vibrant and embelished that I wanted to pair it with an outfit a little more neutral. I myself, have never worn leather shorts, but Iove the look of these mini shorts. Because they are so edgy I paired them with a more feminine tuxedo blouse(here you'll see evidence of another spring 2012 trend, menswear in womenswear). I absolutly love these stilettos, the metal accents give them such a demanding presence, it makes me want to grab a red cape and step out into the bull pen.... well maybe not. These pieces are pricey so I will try and post an additional set of pieces for you fashionistas on a budget like me.

christmas
love these pics, Making my own greeting cards, because I hated alll of the cards in stores, so cheesey, I can't stand it, so I do my own. Polyvore has a huge amount of christmas related graphics so I make them on there, post them to here, so they get put into one jpeg, and then save it to my desktop and put it into pain t(yep I still use paint), print it out on cardstock(I bought a huge pack 2 years ago on sale for $5 so I have enough probably for the next 100 christmas's) and then bam you have you own cute personalized cards and not a corny one bought from the drug store that you have to cross out aunt and put dad because they didnt have any dad ones left, any if your parents are like mine, they'll like something like this much better :)
Merry Christmas Eve everyone!
Crafting adventure: Shell painting
So I have been wanting to do this for a whileeeee.
I don't know why, but as usual, I was bored at work one day, and thought it would be cool to paint designs on shells, so I came up with all these cool ideas to paint on them. So then of course by the time I actually got some shells, I lost the list, and tried to remember all of these fabulous ideas and came up with a few. Thankfully I had emailed myself links of prints I liked so I used that at my starting point.
Being from the Capes, shells are always EVERYWHERE, or so I thought, on the beach, in cvs you can buy a seashell mug and at the coveted christmas tree shop you can usually get seashell anything, lamp, nutcracker, table you name it, you can find one covered in star fish and clam shells. So of course I chose the winter to emark on a shell crafting adventure, and my precious clam shells were nowhere to be found in the christmas tree shop, not in the craft store, or cvs so I settled for scallop shells, which I love, and think are much prettier, but not as ideal for painting. So then finally thanksgiving rolled around I headed home and black friday we were blessed with some unseasonably warm weather..so of course I headed not to the shops but to the beach. It was a tad windy, but to be walking around in a blazer at the beach the day after thanksgiving was awesome. So I went on the hunt for clam shells, and luckily found tons! yay!
So I headed back to the city with my bag full of clam shells..which might have stayed in the trunk of my car until monday..whoops..
So finally! wednesday I decided that it was shell painting time! I had the paint the shells anda few frames so I started..
I'm using acrylic painting cus after googling what to paint shells with the best concencus was acrylic.
My friends will find it funny that I'm making shell decor because usually I'm anti-anything shellaqued with shells and nautical sealife, once again i think its the years I spent surrounded by it.
So I started off simple with some letters, then I tried a lock and key, the lock was not so successful, and then the one that is still in progress is the black in white paisley-esq design that I want to paint on 4 shells and kind of frame together.
So this is what I have so far..

I kind of wish I had painted the key in the other direction, because then I could but some ribbon through the little whole and it would be a really cute ornament!
I plan on giving the L.O.V.E. one to my mom for christmas and not sure about the others
Let me know what you think, or if you have any suggestions!
Cooking adventure: B&E Toast cups
Ok so I'm not sure why I decided to get into these cooking extravaganza's at 8:30 at night. I get home from work completely famished since I think all I had time for yesterday was a chai tea, so you would think I would grab the closest Tupperware container of leftovers and just eat that...you would think.. but my mind which has been perusing pinterest all day has other plans
[[[ side note if you haven't joined pinterest yet, and need another site to amuse you during the day, this one is greatt, its another awesome community for creative souls and just fun stuff that you can share, and easily organize all the stuff you find on the web so you don't have to keep emailing yourself links like I do]]]
Well at first I thought I had everything needed for this recipe, pinned from marthastewart living I believe. Eggs, bacon, bread...once again i thought... but I was missing a KEY thing..a muffin pan. Yep, I didn't have a muffin pan, and my bacon was moldy so I thought about abandoning my cooking adventure. Then I realized that I had to go to the store for another cooking adventure I plan on having tonight (making Christmas eve apps). So off to the store I went.
Now I also had half a tube off Pillsbury biscuits left, that I needed to use up so I knew this would be perfect. I flattened out the biscuit dough a little bit then molded them into the cup. I also wanted to try one with the bread, which I thought was a clever idea. You take a piece of bread, I used whole wheat, flatten it and then use a cookie cutter to get a circle to cut in half and then mold 2 halves together in the muffin cup. Now another instrument I didn't have was a cookie cutter, so I used a cap from my can to kind of cut the circle shape I wanted, and it actually worked pretty well.
Now the only issue I had, was I think because I used extra large egg. so they kind of spilled over the cup.
So the finished result--- the bread once actually came out the best, the other ones overflowed a little bit, but the egg was cooked, so i could still easily take them out of the cup and they stayed in tack and looked like an adorable little breakfast in a muffin
They would be perfect for brunch! and pretty good on the go to.
So my food photography skills aren't the greatest...
so lets thank martha for another adorable edible recipe to show off to your friends with.

Peplum Pandimonium
So I am so excited that peplum skirts and shirts are in style for Spring 2012 because I love the shape of a peplum skirt/dress. It gives the perfect hourglass shape and looks both sexy and sophisticated. Just like us, peplums come in many shapes and sizes, some are more timid and modest, and some are more bold and in your face. Here are a few that I found
Below are from the Spring 2012 runways. As you can see more simply a peplum is just a mini ruffled circle skirt attached to the top of another skirt which is generally more fitted like a pencil skirt. Some may have 20 pleats for extra flare and some may only have 4 for just a little added structure to the waist
This one is from Jason Wu. I'd probably rock it at a fun cocktail party.
I loveee this cutout kind of 3/4 ascending peplum. Its daring, edgy and girly all in one dress. Completely fabulous.
This Stella Mcartney shirt is a great example of a peplum shirt. Now unfortunately, I do think they work better on a more narrow frame, or someone with a long torso who wants a more hourglass shape.
These are a few I found on polyvore. All which I love. They're more demure peplums so many can be worn to work an out for cocktails afterwards which is great. The Dorothy Perkins dress is modest but then kicks it up a notch with the spicy red color. I love the Elie saab dress, which also comes in black. It reminds me of an origami peplum, a great modern twist.
This double criss-crossed back dress with peplum skirt is great because, the peplum adds a nice shape to the waist and then the back gives it a fantastic pizazz. I'm always a fan of back drama. If it weren't for having to wear an adhesive bra with something like this, or sans bra, then I'd definitely own more like this in my wardrobe.
Lastly a little celebrity peplum. Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman rock bold and bright peplums both fitting perfectly with their body type.
So now hopefully, you're all caught up on your peplum styles, and can get ready to rock one this spring!

Snow White the huntswoman
Grab your riding pants and satchel because you're not gonna whistle while you wait anymore. Snow white, contrary to popular belief, after escaping death, decided to pillage for what she needed living her life on the run as a wanted criminal ( as seen in Once Upon a Time on abc), I'm not sure where the 7 dwarfs come along in this story line, but I'm not sure they'd approve, though I love it. Not the stealing thing, but I think it would have been better if girls were shown storybook characters that were bold, confident and courageous, and not just singing to animals in the kitchen. I stumbled upon the Alexander McQueen jacket accidentally and new that it would be perfect for a more modern hunts woman look. I paired it with a pair of Ralph Lauren riding pants to give it more of that hunts woman effect and then added knee high riding boots. Now of course you need your cross body shoulder bag to hold all your stolen fairy dust and magical trinkets. Pair it with some leather beaded bracelets( I'm not a fan of swords but the one above has faux fantastic dagger embellishment perfect for scaring of trolls). Throw on a green scarf and you're ready to start your career as a modern day hunstwoman.

Once Upon a time
Ok so I'm a little let down by the amount of photos I was able to find from the show, so I'm going to have to go back and watch the previous episodes and pick out my favorite outfits and try and find something similar online. I think most of them are covered here. So those of you that watch the show know that Ginnifer Goodwin plays snow white. Who went from Snow white the poor huntsman to snow white, married to prince charming. She definitely makes a huntsman outfit look sexy, in a I don't mind getting my hands dirty kind of way. Then she emerges pristine and princess like in her white gown cascading with feathers, not the wedding dress I had originally pictured on snow white, but now its all I can picture her in (though I wasn't a fan of her hair at the wedding). Then of course there's the evil queen, who pardon my french but is a bad ass villain. I definitely love to hate her, but mostly love her Alexander McQueen-esq black lace head pieces that seem to transcend from her hairline like evil protrudes from her veins.
Then of course their was the Cinderella episode. Now Cinderella has always been my favorite princess, not sure why but it was probably because of the twinkling ball gown she got to wear and the fact that she had a fairy godmother. Love love loved her iridescent blue gown, and the other gowns at her wedding to prince ?
So I'm going to try and break down my favorite outfits paired with their more modern everyday equivalents

***tomorrow**
If I didn't have a bijillion other things to do before my bedtime, which was an hour ago, then I would totally write this post now, but I'll have more time at work to extract pictures for the world wide web so that I can rave about the magnificence of once of my new favorite shows: Once Upon a Time on abc, I so love how its a mixture of the the little girl in me who loved every storybook princess so much that I was a princess every year for halloween until about 6th grade, to my favorite part of the show which is their costumes, that is what I intend to write about tomorrow :)
Spring 2012 collections
So I'm a little behind on my reviews of the spring 2012 collection, and I'm definitly not going to get through all of my rants and ravess tonight but I'll start will Alexander Mqueen.
[[ side note: yesterday someone at work asked me who my favorite designer was, a question I loathe because, honestly i don't have a favorite designer, I have multiple for multiple different reasons, there are the givens like Chanel for her iconic legacy she left behind, and her confident charisma that I admire most, and classic Balenciaga, because he was a total architectural genius when it came to constructing a garment, and more recently rodarte for their illusive visions that caressed the runways looks, to the ultimate classical painstaking detail of a draped dress by madame gres, I just can't pick a favorite, even though I tend to admire avante guarde work for its unique-ness, and wearable art form. I tend to go for more feminine designers and that brings me to the first designer I will review, because for some reason she was who I said when I was asked who my favorite designer was ( a la moment) Sarah Burton, the current designer for Alexander McQueen. These are the kind of garments that I would love love love to see being walked down the runway in person, because I just know that the pictures do them no justice. I just have such an appreciation for the detail that goes into the whole process from the color palette selection to picking out the right shoe. I loved the transcendental ruffles that played along the silhouette of the babydoll dresses and the striking contrast of the black lace. I tip my hat to her use of blushing nudes and bronzed porcelains fabrics that looked like they were dripped from a Greek statue. What I really loved most was how her collection still embodies that master himself, and that she is able to inject herself into a collection that can represent them both magnificently.

Accessory of the Day
Charlotte Olympia pumps (see more platform high heels)
Silk satin. Handmade. Covered heel measures approximately 150mm/ 6 inches with a 40mm/ 1.5 inch island platform. Red and hot-pink silk-satin, leather backing. Almond toe, signature gold web plaque at sole. Slip on.
In honor of Christmas I am featuring holiday inspired accessories this week. Now I know red and pink aren't typical holiday colors(maybe more Valentine's day-esq) but they reminded me of fun Christmas ornaments and ribbon with the vibrant red and shiny satin pink accent. Sexy, sophisticated, festive and fun, sure to brighten up your holiday spirit. If you decided to be your own secret Santa this year I would slip yourself a pair of these.
WILD CHILD
This set started off being for an animal print contest. Now I used to be the biggest fan of animal print, even as a third grader I remember choosing to do a report on the leopard so I could wear my leopard print outfit for my report. Then of course a few years ago there was a resurgence of animal print trends, and I found myself buying leopard print heels, leopard scarves and sweaters, then like most trends it was played out a little to much and I started to feel like a mix of Fran Drescher from The Nanny and a cast member of the Jersey shore. So I found myself slowly abandoning my love for animal print. But of course I never get rid of everything, my leopard heels are still sitting sexily and the back of my closet because I know trends continue to pop up for a while until the disappear for a while and then comeback in a big way years down the road. So with this set and contest I couldn't find it in myself yet to style an outfit with a leopard or zebra print dress, though there are still many tasteful ones out there, and then I came across this asymmetrical Cavalli dress and I knew I had found my happy medium. So once the dress was found I was led to these fantastic heels, my favorite item in the set. I love Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, and its no wonder from looking at these why he was named shoe designer of the years, he makes a burnt orange heel look chic and sexy but not tacky. The other item that struck me was the tiger clutch. I was looking for the bag to match and saw this little guy not even realizing that it is actually a bag, a couture bag at that. What may look like an overdone child's toy from a far is actually a cute elegant Judith leiber bag, fully encrusted in swarovski crystals, then hand painted to take on the look of a ferocious tiger. I'm not sure I could rock a tiger clutch, though I admire his craftsmanship, so for those of us who are less bold, I paired it with the DVF metallic clutch, to add a touch of glam to this look. So hopefully the inner wild child in you will find some inspiration in this look.
